The Operations BI team is responsible for the Production Data load and ongoing enhancements/development of Journals Data Warehouse, Books Data Warehouse, Oracle Service Cloud Analytics Reporting (OSCAR) Data Warehouse, Platform intelligence, and technology support for Celonis.
As part of Digital Business Solutions (DBS) organization, we work closely in partnership with the Operations Data Management business team to provide timely insight that allows Elsevier to act and meet existing and emerging customer needs and expectations. We support these insights through the provision of data warehouses built for our Journals and Books businesses, and our Customer Support division. This includes day-to-day development and support as well as developing long-term solutions for sustained high quality data and analytics.
This role will be based in the Chennai, India office working alongside the technical lead and business stakeholders based in Oxford, UK and the Amsterdam, Netherlands (although everyone is currently working remotely). The business consumers of the insights are based around the globe.
About The Role
As a Data Engineer in the Operations Business Insights team, you will be responsible for
developing new data pipelines, data migrations and supporting existing data pipelines that load data from various source systems into our Data Mesh.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with product owners, tech lead, architects, and data analysts on new data initiatives.
- Operate in an agile working environment while collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Follow development processes, coding best practices and perform code reviews.
- Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of data components of moderate complexity.
- Work closely with other development team members to understand complex product requirements and translate them into data pipeline designs.
- Write comprehensive documentation to facilitate easy understanding, discovery, and reuse by other teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- All other duties as assigned.
We are looking for someone with:
- Datawarehouse, SQL, Snowflake, DBT, Python, AWS Glue, Astronomer
- Overall Work Exp: 45 Years
- Expertise in data warehousing, ETL and SQL i.e. data engineering.
- Ability to do deep troubleshooting and SQL Optimization.
- Strong understanding of dbt cloud for data transformation.
- Experience with data migration projects.
- Experience supporting, developing, and enhancing data pipelines using AWS Glue, Python and Snowflake.
- Experience in orchestration tools Airflow/Astronomer.
- Experience in release management using CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in Agile software development, with familiarity of Scrum and Kanban ceremonies and artefacts.
- Able to work in a team with people from all backgrounds.
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
