Job Description

Role Summary

Establish, monitor, and continuously improve the legal and regulatory compliance framework for GPIL and group companies, covering corporate, labor, environmental, mining, power, and other business compliances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee a compliance management framework and compliance calendar for all applicable laws (central, state, local) across group entities.
  • Identify applicable laws and regulatory requirements for GPILs business (mining, steel, ferro alloys, power, renewables, environment, labor, safety, ESG).
  • Monitor compliance status, coordinate with functions (HR, operations, HSE, accounts) to ensure timely filings, renewals, and license/permit management.
  • Implement and manage compliance tools / trackers for real-time status visibility and reporting.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits, risk assessments, and gap analyses; drive remediation actions.
  • Prepare compliance reports for senior management, Audit Committee, Board, and external stakeholders.
  • Support policy drafting and implementation (Code of Conduct, anti-bribery, POSH, whistleblower, data privacy, ESG-related policies).
  • Train employees and business teams on compliance obligations and policy adherence.

Key Skills (Technical)

  • Deep understanding of: Labour & employment laws, Contract labour regulations, Shops & Establishments laws, Factories Act and allied rules, social security laws (PF, ESI, Gratuity), Environmental, safety and health regulations, corporate governance requirements. And good awareness of regulatory inspections and enforcement practices. As well as Data Privacy regulations.
  • Compliance Governance & Risk Management: Designing and implementing compliance frameworks, identifying applicable laws across entities, risk classification (High / Medium / Low), mapping ownership and accountability, Creating compliance matrices and dashboards, etc.
  • Audit & Assurance: Managing internal and external compliance audits, interpreting audit findings, driving corrective and preventive actions, supporting regulatory inspections,
  • Policy, SOP & Documentation: Drafting compliance policies, developing SOPs and control checklists, Creating compliance calendars, Maintaining evidence repositories, etc.
  • Compliance Technology & Reporting: Familiarity with compliance tracking tools, maintaining dashboards and MIS, supporting automation initiatives, data-driven compliance reporting, etc.

Qualifications

  • LL.B. from a recognized university.
  • CS / Certified compliance and ethics Professional qualification or formal compliance-related certifications preferred (especially for Sr. Manager).
  • Additional training in corporate governance / risk & compliance tools is an advantage.
  • Preference background in Legal Audit.

Experience

  • Manager: 58 years in legal/compliance roles within corporate (preferably listed / large manufacturing or infra group).
  • Sr. Manager: 812+ years with demonstrated experience in leading compliance function, setting up frameworks, and dealing with regulators.
