Project Associate/ Post Doctoral Fellow

We, at IIT Madras, are seeking a postdoctoral fellow or project associate to collaborate on a project merging natural language processing (NLP) and financial modeling. Our focus is on crafting an automated real-time portfolio optimization system. The project entails constructing a benchmark dataset from corporate announcements, refining language models for text classification, and crafting machine learning algorithms to forecast stock price movements. The ultimate objective is to establish a real-time portfolio management system grounded in these predictive analytics.

**Responsibilities:**

- Conduct web scraping and data engineering from financial platforms like BSE and news articles.

- Fine-tune and assess language models for financial text categorization.

- Develop time-series forecasting models for stock price estimation.

- Implement portfolio optimization strategies such as Markowitz and Value-at-Risk.

- Produce modular, reproducible code and uphold project documentation.

**Eligibility & Skills:**

Minimum Qualification:

- PhD or Masters degree in Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Data Science, or Engineering with a robust emphasis on data science, AI, and optimization. (Candidates with a Bachelors degree and substantial relevant experience may also qualify for the Project Associate position.)

Desirable Skills:

- Proficiency in machine learning, deep learning, and NLP fundamentals.

- Hands-on experience in training and fine-tuning Language Models (LLMs).

- Strong Python programming skills and expertise in web scraping.

- Understanding of portfolio optimization and foundational finance concepts is advantageous.

- Familiarity with cloud computing/GPU environments is preferred.

**Duration:** 1 year

**Fellowship/Stipend:** Commensurate with institute/project guidelines, dependent on qualifications and experience.
