Job Description

The Manager- Project Quality (Mechanical) is responsible for ensuring quality assurance and control across all mechanical systems and equipment during the erection and commissioning phases of the thermal power project. This includes boilers, turbines, piping systems, pressure vessels, and mechanical auxiliaries. The role ensures adherence to QAPs, ITPs, OEM specifications, and statutory codes. The incumbent will lead a team of quality engineers and inspectors, coordinate with contractors and OEMs, and ensure defect-free execution aligned with project timelines.

Location: JSW KSK Mahanadi, Chhattisgarh (Plant site)


Key Result Areas (Key Performance Indicators)


Mechanical Quality Assurance- Ensure compliance with QAPs, ITPs, and technical specifications for mechanical systems including boiler pressure parts, turbine components, and piping networks.
Inspection & Testing- Supervise NDT, hydrotesting, dimensional checks, welding inspections, and material traceability as per project standards.
OEM & Contractor Coordination- Interface with OEMs (e.g., BHEL, Siemens, GE) and erection contractors for quality documentation, NCR resolution, and inspection protocols.
Statutory Compliance-

Ensure adherence to IBR, CEA, Factory Act, and other applicable mechanical codes and standards.
Documentation & Reporting- Maintain inspection records, test certificates, punch lists, and commissioning dossiers for mechanical systems.
Audit & Review- Support internal and external audits and ensure closure of audit findings related to mechanical quality.
Commissioning Readiness- Ensure mechanical systems are inspected, tested, and ready for commissioning activities such as steam blowing, rolling, and synchronization.

Educational Background

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering


Work Experience

  • Minimum 12 to 18 years of experience in mechanical quality assurance for large-scale thermal power projects (preferably about 600 MW units), with hands-on exposure to erection and commissioning phases.


Skills Required

  • Expertise in mechanical QA/QC protocols and inspection techniques
  • Familiarity with OEM manuals, QAPs, and ITPs
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and quality documentation tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of statutory codes: IBR, CEA, Factory Act
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities
