Role Overview

We are looking for intellectually driven researchers in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to mentor high school students through open-ended, research-style exploration in computational thinking, modeling, and algorithmic inquiry.

This is not a coding tutoring or competitive programming role.

Mentors work closely with students to help them move from curiosity to meaningful questions, from intuition to structured models, and from exploratory ideas to research-style outputs.

The role is best suited for individuals who enjoy breaking down complex ideas, designing simplified but rigorous models, and guiding others through open-ended problem solving.

What Youll Do

• Guide students from curiosity → question → framework → execution

• Help students identify non-trivial, feasible research questions in AI/ML

• Support projects involving simplified theoretical, computational, or data-driven models

• Mentor students in areas such as:

o Machine Learning Fundamentals

o Optimization and Learning Theory

o Neural Networks and Deep Learning

o Probabilistic Modeling

o Graph-Based Learning

o Reinforcement Learning

o AI for Scientific Discovery

o Algorithmic and Data-Driven Modeling

• Help students build toy models or prototype implementations where appropriate

• Support literature exploration and development of conceptual clarity

• Provide feedback on assumptions, experimental design, reasoning, and written work

• Encourage independent thinking rather than template-driven project execution

Required Qualifications

• Current or completed PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, Statistics, or a related quantitative field

• Strong research background and/or publication record

• Strong analytical and computational problem-solving skills

• Ability to explain complex concepts with clarity and precision

• High ownership, reliability, and attention to detail

Researchers from IITs, IISc, IIITs, and leading international universities are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Experience

• Experience guiding exploratory or open-ended projects

• Familiarity with research workflows involving modeling, experimentation, or computation

• Strong technical writing and editorial ability

Key Responsibilities

Research Guidance & Project Development

Work 1-on-1 with students to refine research questions, develop frameworks, and guide structured exploration.

Conceptual Mentorship

Build foundational understanding by breaking down sophisticated ideas into accessible but rigorous components.

Modeling & Computational Support

Help students develop toy models, prototype implementations, or simplified computational investigations appropriate to their level.

Writing & Output Development

Support students in organizing ideas into clear, well-structured research papers or project reports.

Progress Tracking & Accountability

• Ensure steady progress through regular sessions, milestone planning, and iterative feedback.
