Education: Mechanical Engineering, or a Diploma in Automobile Engineering. Membership or an associate/fellowship of the Insurance Institute of India (III)

An in-house motor insurance assessor's job involves investigating and assessing motor vehicle damage for insurance claims to determine the fair settlement amount. Key responsibilities include conducting thorough inspections, validating the loss, verifying policy details, writing detailed reports with repair cost estimates, and advising on loss minimization. They must maintain neutrality, act with professional integrity, and adhere to claim timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Damage assessment:

Inspect damaged vehicles thoroughly, identify the extent of the damage, and determine the cost of repairs and replacements.

• Claim validation:

Investigate the cause of the accident or loss and verify that the claim is valid and that the policyholder has a genuine insurable interest.

• Neutrality and integrity:

Maintain a neutral and objective stance to ensure fairness for both the insurer and the policyholder, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

• Reporting:

Prepare detailed and prompt reports for the insurer that include findings, cost estimates, and recommendations.

• Document verification:

Scrutinize and verify all necessary documents submitted by the insured.

• Advising on loss mitigation:

• Policy and condition analysis:

Evaluate the policy terms, warranty conditions, and other related matters like depreciation and excess/under-insurance.
