Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Article Trainee – Indirect Tax (CA Intermediate Only) based in Chennai. The role involves assisting in indirect tax compliance, including preparation and review of GST returns, reconciliations, and supporting documentation. The Article Trainee will support senior team members in conducting indirect tax research, analyzing notifications and case laws, and preparing technical notes and working papers. Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing client data, maintaining statutory records, helping with audits and assessments, and drafting basic reports and client communications. The role also includes coordinating with cross-functional teams, adhering to firm standards and timelines, and actively participating in learning and development programs.

Qualifications

• CA Intermediate qualified (both groups or as specified by the firm) with eligibility and intent to pursue articleship in Indirect Tax.
• Foundational knowledge of Indirect Tax laws, particularly GST, and a strong interest in specialization within this domain.
• Ability to research tax provisions, interpret regulations, and prepare clear technical summaries and working notes.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills, including comfort with reconciliations, data validation, and use of spreadsheets.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn tax and compliance software tools.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a professional approach to client interaction and documentation.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to meeting deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, take initiative in assignments, and adapt to structured training and review processes.
• Prior internship or exposure in taxation, audit, or accounting will be an advantage.
