Job Description
Job Purpose
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible implementation of digital transformation initiatives including the introduction of CI/CD processes, container-based architectures and API designs within his area.
This is a hands-on role so ultimately a Senior Software Engineer is comfortable with all aspects of modern, agile software development including designing, developing, documenting and testing complex software solutions. In addition, a Senior Software Engineer helps in the development of functional / nonfunctional user stories to prepare the team backlog together with the Lead Software Engineer and the Product Owner. He/She will also be able to effectively mentor junior developers in the team.
This versatile individual will be instrumental in NBF’s digitalization journey by driving innovation, improving development processes and ensuring that our technical solutions align with our digital transformation goals.
- Design, develop and test complex software solutions using Agile SDLC practises, stay up-to-date on latest technologies/trends and adopt DevOps practises such as CI/CD processes
- Assist the product owner / technical lead with user story development.
- Work with other developers to ensure software is of highest quality
- Adoption of container-based architectures. Architect, develop and maintain microservices-based applications, leverage modern design patterns and best practises
- Reengineer existing system and processes
- Participates in the hiring process for potential new developers and provide input on hiring decisions
- Working with vendors and offshore partners
- Assist the Unit Head to prepare annual plans, budgets and resources for the effective functioning of the unit
This is a challenging role and requires strong understanding of software development, Scrum and Agile practices, cloud computing and container/microservice architectures. The individual is a highly skilled and experienced developer with the ability to mentor junior developers.
In addition to the above indicated key indicators, the Senior Software Engineer is able to participate in technical discussions, has decision making skills and can represent the team in meetings.
Education Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Masters in Computer Applications Experience and Skills
Professional Qualifications / Knowledge
• Any Agile SDLC / Project Management Certifications such as
o Certified Scrum Master (Desired)
o Scalable Agile Framework (SAFe) Program Consultant (Desired)
• Any Technical Certifications such as
o AWS Certified Solution Architect or similar (Desired)
o Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer or similar (Desired)
o Oracle Certified Master Java Architect or similar (Desired)
o WebMethods Integration Server Developer or similar (Desired)
o Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Application Development or similar (Desired)
o Certified Microservices Professional or similar (Desired)
o Temenos T24 Certification (Desired)
Work Experience
• Minimum 7 years of application development experience in an agile environment of a reputable Bank or Software vendor. Banking industry experience is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of a variety of programming languages such as Java, Java Script, .Net, Python and SQL
• Strong understanding of software development principles, practises and technologies including unit and integration testing
• Strong understanding with Scrum / Scrumban / Kanban and Agile development methodologies

• Strong understanding of DevOps practises and tools such as Spinnaker, Jenkins etc
• Good understanding of relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server or MongoDB.
• Experience to develop and maintain user interfaces using front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS and Java Script
• Experience with API design and development
• Experience in designing, developing and maintaining microservices based applications
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with software security principles and practises
• Experience with business analysis techniques and methodologies
• Experience in vendor management
• Experience with cloud computing platforms
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and a proactive mindset to identify and address technical challenges
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Experience with security and compliance requirements in the financial industry
• Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in digital transformation
• Technical writing skills
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including senior management, product owner, vendors offshore partners, and other developers / dev-ops
• Arabic language skills would be an added advantage
