Investment Associate, High Conviction Equities

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board (Ontario Teachers') is the administrator of Canada's largest single-profession pension plan, with CAD $241.6 billion in net assets as of December 31, 2021. The opportunity
Based in our office in India, the Investment Associate will be an integral part of the Equities team. While the role will be primarily working with the High Conviction Equities (“HCE”) team and focus on public equities and growth stage investments in private companies, you will also get involved with evaluating direct investments opportunities in the private companies with the Private Capital investment team. The role-holder will support senior investment professionals in analyzing potential investment opportunities and executing transactions in India and help with monitoring the performance of existing investments and working with portfolio company management teams to execute central initiatives.
Who You’ll Work With
Besides the onshore teams in India, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of professionals across Ontario Teachers’ offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Toronto and London. You will also partner with external partners (such as, investment bankers, consultants and lawyers) in the region.
What You’ll Do

• Analyze and evaluate potential investment opportunities in public and private markets, including business models, key value drivers and investment risks


• Develop detailed financial models clearly identifying recommended valuation range, critical business drivers, sensitivity analysis etc.


• Prepare comprehensive investment memos / presentation clearly articulating industry insights, investment thesis and recommendation for the senior leadership team


• Monitor on-going financial and operational performance of portfolio companies


• Generate be-spoke industry analysis in collaboration with the team. Monitor industry developments and disseminate relevant information to the team


• Support HCE senior team members with the structuring, negotiation and execution of deals


• Work with external partners to screen, evaluate and execute potential deals including due-diligence efforts


• Partner with the broader equities team in India as well as across offices (or other departments at OTPP) on certain transactions or initiatives


• 
  Support OTPP Asia office-wide initiatives
  

What You’ll Need

• 3 to 4 years of experience in investment banking / asset management / equity research roles at leading firms


• Strong educational background (Tier-I global business schools, IIM-A/B/C, ISB, etc.)


• Very strong analytical and quantitative skills and solid understanding of fundamental investment analysis


• Special emphasis on accounting, valuation and financial modelling skills


• Ability to quickly develop an understanding of economic/business characteristics, conditions and trends of a wide range of industries and work with third-party advisors


• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written


• Willing / able to travel across Asia and internationally


• Fluency in English is required


• A high degree of maturity and initiative, with the ability to work effectively and independently within a small entrepreneurial team


• Experience in covering public equities or private late-stage growth is preferred
