Press Tool Maintenance

Role & responsibilities

• Perform periodic maintenance of press tools as per schedule to ensure tool life and performance.
• Diagnose and rectify tool-related breakdowns on press machines.
• Handle assembly/disassembly of tools, ensuring correct alignment and reassembly.
• Assist in die setup, shimming, and stroke adjustment for part accuracy.

• Track and record tool performance, wear, and life history.
• Identify tool failures (chipping, cracking, spring damage) and implement CAPA.
• Perform surface finishing, polishing, and sharpening for punches and dies.
• Support tryouts, part dimension checks, and fitment verification after maintenance.
• Understand tool steel grades, heat treatment, and hardness.
• Understand mechanical and hydraulic press functions, tonnage, and stroke settings.

  Get Hired
  Understand construction and function of punches, dies, stripper plates, guides, and springs.
• Perform minor welding repairs, surface lapping, and grinding on tool components.
• Follow LOTO, lifting, and handling protocols for heavy tools.
• Apply PM and Kaizen principles in tool maintenance.
• Basic operation of surface grinder, lathe, and milling machine for tool repair.
• Maintain tool history, PM checklists, and breakdown reports.
