Purpose of Job
The Control & Instrumentation Engineer I, requires the individual to be able to work within a well-defined environment being sensitive to engineering scope in operations of CPF, IPF and on project schedule and costing.
The incumbent contributes to maintain control & instrumentation design intent through the application of correct work processes, design codes, standards and tools.
Applicable control & instrument engineering activities required to successfully assist maintenance team on troubleshooting and upgrade projects.
The incumbent is responsible for supporting in implementing and maintaining global minimum standards, local standards, and agreement on international standards with particular focus on the Control System & Instrumentation engineering discipline.
Responsible for assurance definition and implementation as well as the achievement of performance goals.
This position is also accountable for ensuring that all safety systems, access systems, operational technology infrastructure is available and meet operational standards requirements.
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

• Support with defining and developing current standards, best practices, templates, procedures, and training for Control system & Instrumentation (C&I) engineering work effort, incorporating lessons learnt and industry trends;
• Provide input concerning best practices and lessons learnt;

• Generate value add from implementation of lessons learnt;
• Provide input into project execution strategies including contracting and selection of suppliers.;
• Manage deviation controls in all Control & Instrumentation Engineering related activities;
• Measure and report on Control & Instrumentation engineering performance on the plants;
• Ensure that third party Quality Control inspection and audit processes are in place and followed as per the strategy and requirements;
• Manage incident reporting, following the conduct of Root Cause Analysis and implementation of corrective plans;
• Assist SHE and PSM Department with technical support & reporting for quality assurance and improve CPF safety systems integrity;
• Assure the safety and continued integrity of communication equipment: two-way radios, emergency Intercom/public address systems, fire & gas alarms systems;
• Develop deviation concessions and concession registers to Sasol specifications for small project execution;
• Plan resources against short- and long-term objectives;
• Ensure compliance with legal, safety and operational reliability requirements.
• Support with implementing Control System & Instrumentation Engineering quality assurance standards to uphold the highest local and international standards;
• Conduct quality assurance reviews and ensure compliance to set standards;
• Review deviations from Control System & Instrumentation standards for approval when necessary;
• Review overall project quality goals for Control System & Instrumentation Engineering on projects and monitor quality progress of deliverables;
• Assure proper documentation of technical data generated from the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures;
• Provide interface with Supply Chain, Finance, Maintenance, Process Engineering and Production for quality and safety assurance during equipment/material or service procurement;
• Support Supply Chain/ Manufacturing/ Vendors with any issues they may have when manufacturing a system or sub-system;

  Help to address sourcing/obsolescence issues with the system and re-design aspects of the system with new products, as necessary;
• Safeguard, backup of the C&I systems and equipment;
• Performs QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Control) for the C&I systems and equipment;
• Participate in the RCA (Root Cause Analysis);
• Provide support as custodian of Control System & Instrumentation engineering technology management on a Group wide basis. Provide support as a consultant on Control System & Instrumentation topics Group wide;
• Assist in selection of external service providers by measuring technical competence. Examine and leverage practical Control System & Instrumentation specific assets in and around Sasol, for the rest of Sasol;
• Develop ability to measure and report on discipline engineering performance;
• Provide support with exercising a deciding vote on all significant development decisions, including project gate readiness;
• Advise and coordinate calibrations of all C&I equipment (Measurement devices).

University Bachelors Degree in Instrumentation & Control or Engineering: Electrical and Electronic
