Job Description
- As a Senior Fitter (Maintenance) at our company, you will play a crucial role in maintaining, repairing, and overhauling mechanical equipment in the steel plant to ensure minimum breakdowns and smooth plant operations. Your hands-on skills, leadership in guiding fitters/helpers, and commitment to safety and quality standards will be key in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment such as rolling mills, gearboxes, cranes, conveyors, pumps, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose faults, dismantle, repair, and assemble mechanical parts with precision.
- Supervise and guide junior fitters, helpers, and contract workers during maintenance jobs.
- Ensure planned shutdown and breakdown maintenance is executed as per schedule.
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, spare consumption, and downtime.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, lockout-tagout (LOTO), and PPE usage during maintenance.
- Suggest improvements for equipment reliability, performance, and cost reduction.
- Handle alignment, welding, grinding, and basic machining as required.
- Report abnormalities, recurring issues, and suggest corrective action to the Maintenance Engineer/Manager.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of steel plant/rolling mill machinery.
- Hands-on expertise in fitting, assembly, and alignment jobs.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, assembly layouts, and manuals.
- Basic knowledge of welding, gas cutting, and fabrication.

Qualifications & Experience:
- ITI Fitter / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- Minimum 5-6 years of experience in heavy mechanical maintenance, preferably in steel/rolling mills or process industries.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems will be an advantage.
In this plant-based role with shift duties, you will be exposed to high temperature, dust, noise, and heavy machinery. It is essential to strictly follow safety protocols.
