CAD (Design) Engineer

Role & responsibilities

A CAD Engineer will be expected to fulfill some or all of the following responsibilities on a project under supervision.

• Produce plant layout drawings to best utilize the available space to incorporate the process equipment specified
• Draft P&IDs based on company standards and contract specific requirements
• Develop fully representative 3D models of bought out equipment from certified 2 D drawings
• Design 3D model of plant arrangement including Pipework, Structural Steel, supports and Electrical containment ensuring the plant is operable and maintainable whilst meeting the process requirements.

• In conjunction with Engineers, ensure that the system is structurally sound
• Present 3D model for review/HAZOP to internal and external audiences
• Produce properly dimensioned 2D drawings from the model
• Produce material take off and bills of material as required
• Assist in the maintenance of the CAD system and ensure that correct upgrades are identified and implemented.
• Check 2D drawings and 3D models produced by others

Preferred candidate profile

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Diploma and/or Degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering from an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an engineering company in drafting and mechanical design experience.

Ability to make decisions requiring the use of a variety of variables in non-standard situations.

Able to use independent judgment in the performance of job duties without supervisor support where appropriate.

Competency in MS Office programs; Hands-on experience on 3D modelling in Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD drafting
