What role will you play in the team?

As a US State and Local Tax (SALT) Specialist, you will provide expertise in state and local tax matters, including income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax. You will assist clients with SALT planning, compliance, and controversy. Your role will be crucial in helping clients minimize their SALT liabilities and ensure compliance with state and local tax laws.

What you will do

You will research state and local tax issues, assist with SALT planning, and prepare state and local tax returns. You will also assist with tax audits and contribute to the development of SALT strategies.

Key responsibility

  • Research and analyze state and local tax issues and provide technical guidance.
  • Assist with SALT planning, including nexus studies, apportionment analysis, and tax incentive optimization.
  • Prepare state and local income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax returns.
  • Assist with tax audits by preparing supporting documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Monitor changes in state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax filing deadlines.
  • Collaborate with other tax professionals to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes and efficiency.
  • Document all tax research, analysis, and conclusions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of US state and local tax laws and regulations.

Required Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in US state and local taxation (SALT).
  • Knowledge of US state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Experience with state tax nexus rules.
  • Understanding of multistate taxation concepts.
